Traveling Reccomendations for Pups at The Luna Lodge

Since the lodge is named after our own dog, Luna, we want your furry best friends to feel just as at home as you do! To help you pack for your dog's Maine vacation, here is a quick guide on what we have waiting for them and what you should bring along.

What You Can Leave at Home (We’ve got you covered!)

Doggy Blankets: Pups are more than welcome to snuggle up on the furniture and beds with you, provided the surfaces are completely covered. We supply dedicated dog blankets for your pups to use, so you can save room in your suitcase!

Mud Towels: Exploring the woods usually means dirty paws! We keep dedicated dog towels right by the entryway so you can quickly wipe them down before coming inside.

Waste Bags: We provide complimentary animal waste bags and a designated outdoor pet waste bin to make yard clean-up a breeze.

What You Can Pack (Safety & Comfort)

Travel Crate: If you are heading out for a non-dog-friendly activity and your pup may experience anxiety, barking, or chewing, they need to be safely secured in a travel crate. (For safety, we don’t allow dogs to be closed in bedrooms or bathrooms while you are out).

Food & Water Bowls: While the house does have its own, feel free to pack your dog’s usual bowls and their favorite food, treats and chews so their tummy and mind stays happy while on vacation.

Outdoor Potty Gear: Please remember that indoor puppy pads are strictly prohibited at the lodge, so be sure to bring whatever you need for outdoor potty breaks!

What to Pack for the Maine Outdoors (Adventure Ready!)

Flea & Tick Prevention & a Tick Key: Our 15 acres of woodland are beautiful, but they are home to Maine’s ticks and insects. Ensure your dog is up-to-date on preventative meds or a flea/tick collar, and pack a tick-removal tool for your daily evening checks.

A Sturdy Leash or Long Line: We require dogs to be on a leash or under strict voice control for their safety and the safety of the local wildlife. A long line is a great way to let them sniff and explore the backyard while staying secure!

Dog-Safe Bug Spray: Mosquitoes love our four-legged friends, too! A pet-safe bug repellent will make those evening campfires much more enjoyable for your pup.

Puppy Protocols

As the name suggests, this place holds a special spot in our hearts because of our own pup, Luna. We absolutely love hosting fellow dog lovers and their furry family members. We want every guest—both two-legged and four-legged—to have an amazing time, so we’ve put together a few simple guidelines to keep the lodge looking great and everyone feeling happy!

Potty Time: We ask that all visiting pups are fully house-trained. Please skip the indoor puppy pads as they are not permitted at our Lodge—the great outdoors is the only place for potty breaks here!

Yard Patrol: Help us keep the yard beautiful for the next guest by picking up after your pup. Just bag it up and toss it in the designated outdoor trash bin before you head out. Easy peasy!

Cozy Cuddles: Dogs are permitted on beds and furniture if you protect them with pet-blankets! Feel free to use your own, or grab one of the dedicated doggy blankets which we provide–if you don’t have them for your pups to snuggle on.

Home Alone: We know your dog can’t join you on every Maine adventure! Since new environments can make pups a little anxious, please plan ahead. If your dog is prone to separation anxiety, barking, or chewing, they should either tag along with you or hang out safely in a travel crate. To keep both your pup and our home safe, we ask that you don’t shut them in a bedroom or bathroom while you’re out.

Exploring the Great Outdoors: For their safety and the safety of our local wildlife, please keep your dog on a leash or under strict voice control when outside. If your pup is still working on their recall skills, we ask that you use a leash while having your outdoor time together.

Bug Off! We actively treat the property to keep pests away, but we highly recommend that your dog has proper tick prevention and is up-to-date on their preventative meds. To prevent these invaders from coming into the property we ask that you do a quick tick-check before heading back inside.

Oopsies & Accidents: We know accidents happen, but please note that any physical damage from chewing or scratching, indoor potty accidents, or the need for a super deep clean (like heavy hair removal on the upholstery) will need to be billed to the guest. Thank you so much for treating our home like your own!

Emergencies Happen: It’s always the unthinkable that catches you off guard and finds you without a plan. In the event something intense happens and your furry friend needs help, please refer to our guidebook in the kitchen where we list several options for immediate and passive veterinary care–as well as a variety of shops that offer goods that you could need for Fido while on your stay with us!
